Bikes Not Bombs Fly on the Sidewall

More detail than our website… !

What is Earn-A-Bike (EAB), anyway?

EAB is an out-of-school learning and earning opportunity for participants aged 12 to 18, based at the BNB HUB.

Youth rebuild bikes in four 5-week programs during the school year (and there are two, shorter summer sessions), and learn advanced urban safe-riding skills. One day out of four per week is reserved for development of special curriculum; in 2008, it’s GLOBAL JUSTICE.

The students in this class who complete the course will EARN a bicycle they have picked out and repaired to KEEP as their own, with the new knowledge of how to maintain it.

EAB is the core “entry-level” opportunity for young people to join the Bikes Not Bombs community. Through 35-40 hours of instruction both indoors and out, students go through a series of applied learning workshops. Earn-a-Bikers work with mathematical and scientific concepts by calculating gear ratios, discover the joys and benefits of healthy lifestyles while riding bicycles, develop safe riding skills through trainings both indoors and out, learn bike mechanics through hands-on repairs, gain job skills through earning a bike, and discuss environmental concepts on experiential field trips to Boston’s many beautiful green spaces.
